Finding and Developing New Sources

With an eye to the future as well as wanting to work in some of the poorer places in the world, Mack has a dedicated resource to develop new sources of supply in less developed countries, with a specific interest in the African continent.

With the Mack objectives in mind we aim to improve incomes in underprivileged areas.

Mack looks to build partnerships and help ensure the success of new, innovative projects. We use our knowledge of UK market supply and work alongside NGOs and other interested parties and funding bodies to establish new businesses in some of the poorest communities. We help these new ventures access the UK market through Mack and the other companies int he Fresca Group.

The brief and emphasis are heavy on sustainability – from both a business and environmental perspective. Mack act as a facilitator to help empower communities, growers and grower collectives; helping them find long-term potential and realistic business plans with the UK market in mind.

Mack will work with projects that:

  • meet market needs by supplying fresh produce that meets seasonal shortfalls, competes favourably on price or meets specific customer requirements, eg Fairtrade
  • are profitable in the medium and long term for growers as well as the rest of the supply chain
  • do not have an initial adverse environmental impact greater than normal local agricultural practises
  • are logistically feasible
  • have a positive economic impact on disadvantaged local communities
  • show innovation, in that they bring a unique selling point for our customers

If you think you can see the green shoots of something that might benefit from our involvement or you'd like to get involved in this side of our work as a grower or with a new project, please contact us.
